Research - Weegee

This shows more the use of flash and how it is used in photojournalism to capture shots quickly so they aren’t missed rather than for artistic viewing, however it is still good research to use for my fill in flash workshop.

What I like about this image is that it looks natural, it has a candid feel to it and I think that this has really been enhanced by the use of flash, as it wouldn’t have been able to capture it so quick with the movement of the subject without flash. I really like the framing of the image, how the subject is in the center of the frame. I think that its fascinating that he didn’t know what the shot would look like he just had to hope as because it was photojournalism he wouldn’t be able to reshoot. I also like the cheekiness of this image created by the subject. The little smile on her face and the way she’s lifted her skirt up and posed her leg. Its fun and light hearted, something that a lot of images seem to lack.

I just love this picture for the comical value. Her face just makes me laugh so much. I would really like to see what she was looking at or what it was that made her react like this. Timing is perfect on this picture and I think that the framing and composition is really spot on. It is however interesting that he decided to shoot this landscape; I like this as nothing distracts you from that amazing expression. The flash is really soft and hasn’t created too much of a harsh light, its kept the colours and tones soft, not too harsh. I think that this is a really nice example of fill in flash and something I hope to aim for.

Again I think that the lighting and use of flash on this shot is really subtle. I like this I think that it gives the image more of an art feel and less of a paparazzi shot look to it. I also like the use of flash with black and white rather than colour; it adds a classy timeless look. The model appears to have glitter or something sheer on that has given her skin a beautiful sparkle when the flash has gone off. This is a really nice detail and makes the picture and I think that this wouldn’t have been attained if the flash weren’t used. This is also an aspect that creates a range of tones in the image, makes it look less flat.
