Research - Martin Parr

So not the biggest fan of Martin Parr, but I’m sure you all know that. However FINALLY found some use for his work. I think that this is probably the perfect, also no doubt the only time I will use it, for my fill in flash project.

I think that in these pictures its probably best that he has used flash to really light up the faces of the subjects, its rather dark and I cant imagine that it would have been really hard to capture these without flash, or using a long shutter speed that wouldn’t have really worked. I do like how the flash has really made the colours in the images vibrant and made them really pop out the picture.

The reason I have chose these 2 images to talk about is to point out that I want to make using flash rather subtle. I know that Martin Parr had the opposite idea and wanted to make it noticeable. However I feel like some areas of these images look to have so much of a contrast in the foreground to the background and it makes it look as though the people are cut out and stuck on. I think it works in this concept but for the path I want to take I think this is something to try and keep away from.

Personally if this is what my images are going to look like I’m really not looking forward to using flash. This is the image that I can’t seem to get out of my head when I think about using flash like this and it’s really a style that I don’t particularly like. Rather struggling to find anything I do like in them.
