I personally think that I have got some
really nice shots in my first attempt at creating 5x4 colour portraits showing variation
in depth of field. However I really wanted to have another go to make sure that
I can do it and that it wasn’t just luck that they worked out. I decided to
take the camera home and shoot some of my family members. These are the
outcomes. I am really happy overall they all appear to be in focus, and also
show depth of field.
I think that I have taken this picture at the wrong
time of the day, it was getting really dark and I feel that I have lost loads
of detail in the image especially in the shed in the background. I do however
like that the model is looking down on me, makes him look powerful and that I’m
inferior to him. A lot of the other shots are straight on. This might possibly
be a good idea to do this and show how I feel about and around the people I am
shooting. I like the colours, there soft and not too in your face. Maybe would
re-visit this shot but with a bit better lighting as I really like the concept
of it, even though I didn’t think of this at the time.
I think that this image is well composed and is
really quite a strong image. I think that it is clean and clear and that the
depth of field that I have tried to portray is really visible and you can
define it. What I really like about this shot is the warm glow on the models
face on her right cheek. This is the first time that I have shot anyone who
wears glasses and I found it rather hard to get the focus right. It looks sharp
to me and in focus but we will see when I enlarge the image.
Out of
all these I think that this might be my favorite. I really like the
composition. I think that the lighting on the models face is really soft and
shows you the detail in their face clearly without it being too bright and
distorting the models expression. I like the colours of the leaves in the background,
I think that this really works because of the mid depth of field and the fact
that they aren’t in focus. Make for a bright background and the yellow and
browns give the whole image a golden glow. The black top that the model has on
tones the image down so it isn’t too bright. I really like this image and I
will defiantly try and enlarge in the darkroom.
I think that this is the worst picture I have
taken. The framing is terrible, it looks wonky, and I don’t like the use of the
skateboard as a prop. I think I could have cropped into it a bit more to get
rid of the yellow post at he right hand side of the frame. I didn’t really want
to do this shot, the model wanted it and I think you can really see that, as it’s
really just a terrible job. I don’t think I’ll bother to enlarge this image. I
really don’t like it. Exposure looks correct, lighting is nice, maybe could have done with avoiding the shadow in the left corner (not to sure how to have done this as there is a wall there)
I wanted to do an image showing my dad in front of
his shed. I think that he loves them birds more than he loves us. I wanted to
try and have a story, I remember Darren’s image in front of the fishing shed
and I kind of wanted to create something like that. I think the lighting could
have been better as it was really late in the day when I took this so there are
quite a lot of shadows. I like the distance from the model really shows the
potential of the depth of field and just how in focus it is. It could have been
set better as the shed roof is not straight, I could slightly crop into this
though to make it straight. I like the colours and think that the bright greens
really brighten the image up. The maybe slightly under exposed but could be
fixed in the darkroom.
