Fill in Flash - Shoot 1

When we had out lesson on fill in flash I don’t think I got it, lets just say the lights were on but know one was home. I really struggled to get my head around it. So the best way to learn something is to get out there and try it. These are what I managed to get, as well as a dead arm, from my first outing to create a fill in flash shot.

1.     On this image I think that the flash is far to bright and really bleaches out areas of the models face. I like the depth of field of the background but think that this is too harsh in contrast to the models face. 
2.    I think in this image the contrast between the background and the subject is getting better as it isn’t as harsh. However I don’t like this image. I want my final image to be portrait not landscape. Also may be slightly dark.
3.    This again way to harsh of a flash on the models face. I think that this may even be worse than the first shot.
4.    I really like the composition of this image. I like the amount of the model that you can see. The depth of field is what I really want (mid depth of field) makes you really focus on the subject.
5.    This is defiantly I think one of the better shots from this shoot. And possibly a choice for my final image. I like that the frame is mainly taken up of the models face 
6.    Really dislike this image full face nearly lost defiantly not using. 
7.    Don’t want to use landscape so this is defiantly not an image that I would use. Its also too much flash and I also to add to the terribleness I don’t like the models expression 
8.    This is subtle, nice lighting. Like that the background isn’t too busy, maybe would try and crop the models hands out, don’t know why but I don’t like them in the shot. 
9.    I think that the lighting is better on this one and I like the contrast between the foreground and there background. This may also be a potential final image. 
10. Lighting maybe slightly harsh but I really like the models expression and also the composition of the image. Maybe might need cropping into slightly if I choose this as a final image. 
Overall for my first shoot I think that I have some usable image from this. However I think that I need more practice and hopefully will get some cleaner less harsh images using flash.
