A Day With My Camera

I feel that in this journey I took more of a simple approach to my photography and I was able to sit and look at things, get more of a feel for the place and really concentrate on what I wanted to capture. Time was on my side and I think that shows through the range of images. I had time to stand and really think about the composition of the image, and what I could really see rather than what I seen at first glance. What I also like about this set of images is that it looks more at objects and buildings rather than people.

This is the image were I really felt like I was beginning to explore being the ‘traveler’ more and showing that this was the case. I began to look at souvenir that were made for tourists, things such as post cards. What I liked about this was that I was taking a picture of a picture, but it is something I could have just seen if I turned around and looked. I found it to be rather ironic. The lighting in the image is really soft, due to the time of day, sun going down. I also think the fact that the post card is wrapped in plastic adds to the image. Shows they are trying to keep the dust off (dust that is all over Goa).  Depth of field is important. Really focuses on that particular post card.

This is what I meant about looking more closely at something. I walked past this several times and all I noticed was a house. However I began to look at the lines created by the weave material. The shape that the house took and also the way the window was created. I really find this simple picture very interesting. It has so many textures and leading lines. I like that its beauty and intrigue in mess.

I walked past this church every day to the beach and the more I looked the more I found it interesting. I took quite a few images in this area. This one in particular I liked. The building was so clean and well looked after unlike the other buildings in that area. And I think that the sign shows the dedication that they have to there beliefs. I didn't want to get the full building in this shot. I wanted to show location that’s why I got slight surroundings on the right side of the frame. I like the lines created by the architecture in the building. Also the shadows created on the floor lead your eyes subtly to the sign on the side of the church.

Depth of field is something that I have really took and ran with in this project. I wanted to pick people out and make them the focus of the shot and depth of field is something that really helped to do this. This image is a great example of this. I think that using it in this was helps pick a subject to focus on but still gives you the a sense of location and what is going on in the background. Just not as detailed.
