Shoot 6

So my next subject that I have chosen to shoot is my uncle peter, someone who I have spent a lot of time with in my life, and someone who is extremely important to me. In his house he has a chair that is ‘his’ chair. No one but him ever sit in it and when I think of him I always imagine him sat there with his iPads or a book reading. So this is exactly what I set out to capture with this shoot.

This is really the first contact sheet that I have produced that I really like as a print as well. Although I don’t think that I am going to use contact sheets as prints anymore its still good to know that I have finally got the hang of it and I’m really starting to create some really nice ones.

I was also trying to use natural lighting, however I have decided that in this shoot it was just too dark and with the model having his back to the window I decided to use some studio lights to just push some lighting into the subject and really pull detail in the image. I think that this has worked really well. I just had 2 lights with soft boxes and simply used the modeling lights to add some contrast and tone.

I decided to do variation of the same image, so simply have one looking directly at the camera and one natural looking at his iPad. The reason behind this is I have shot so many images that I wish I would have maybe had them looking a different way so to try and stop this I got variation.

I really like the depth of field in this image, the way that the subject is really in focus, sharp and something I really wanted to get in the frame is the family image in the background. However I really like how you can see them but due to the depth of field they’re out of focus.

This image is just from a slightly different angle to the above image, I was really just trying to make subtle changes to the positioning of the camera so that I could get the perfect image. I am really liking this one, I think that maybe with a bit of editing it could come up really nice.

Again getting variation in the image, just to make sure that I have the image that I wanted. Think that this might be my favourite image from the shoot. I really like the intensity of the image where he is looking down the lens. Also like the depth of field, the way that his leg is out of focus in the foreground but also the background is also blurred too.

My uncle really wanted to see one of the images so I posted it on my aunties wall, and one of my cousins backed up my idea of this is how we imagine my uncle with this comment, I thought I would put it in to show I wasn’t just making it up ….
