Shoot 3

This is my first attempt at the close up shoot, for this I used one light coming in from the left. I wanted the image to be really dark, by that I mean black background, and the subject wearing black clothes. The reason being for this is so that it almost looks as though the subject is floating. I wanted to focus mainly on his face, the detail, and the emotion. However in this shoot I think that it’s too dark. It was so difficult to try and get a decent contact sheet from the negatives.

I also don’t really like the fact that the model is wearing black clothes so it blends with the background. Maybe might have more light and normal clothes to make them stand out more.

Think that this is the best image from the roll of film. Because of the light captured in his eyes, really bright and lightens the image up. The crop getting close into the subjects face is something I really wanted to capture. Like the detail in his face and the sharpness of the image, is slightly on the dark side but maybe could edit in Photoshop to lighten it up a bit.

I printed the image a few times and I kept noticing this lighter square shape over one of his eyes. I still don’t know why this is there or what it is. But now I know its there is stands out so much. Maybe it’s a fault with the negative because it didn’t come up on the rest of my prints.

Smiling, the best picture of my dad is a smiling one because he’s just the best person and people don’t often thinks he’s a bit moody so this shows everyone what I see. I really love these images, just a shame that they are so dark. However his teeth really pop of the page, maybe the reason as well that they are so dark is because of the darkness of his skin in general? Going to defiantly revisit this and do some more close up shots of my dad.

Right so after looking at these images, although there are some that I really like I think that I am going to take a different approach to this, I am likeing the black background, so I am going to keep that, however I think more lighting on the subject, maybe a light coming from both sides, and also the subject NOT wearing a black top as I am not too sure on the ‘floating head’ look that the images have, even though that was my initial intention.
