My First Print

This is the first ever print that I have produced in the colour darkroom. It might not look like much to you, however to me it’s the best. I’m so proud that I managed to get a print that looked half decent. I know that it’s out of focus (before any of you come and try and burst my bubble) but this is just a 35mm colour film roll that I shot because there wasn’t any 5x4 film in. Rather a rushed job and I’m not very happy with any of the images but it was something to give me a but of a insight into colour printing.

First colour darkroom experience!

So today I had my first experience in the colour darkroom and safe to say it was AWFUL!!! I walked in, had a heart attack, screamed at the bang the door made and then ran out crying… yes that’s right I cried! Thanks to Tim showing me what it looked like with the lights on, I finally managed to get in and do something, maybe not something good but still something none the less. I did however make many rookie mistakes. Maybe still in holiday mode J

Test strips and contact sheets seemed to be a rather pain in the back in the colour dark room! It’s more of a guessing game rather than having any real skill to be honest. It’s so hard to try and place the negatives and get them in any order to be able to produce a contact sheet so I literally have this sorry excuse of one as it was the closes attempt I managed to gain without loosing the will to live or having another break down.

Calculator

The lesson we had working out the areas of the depth of field seems pretty pointless now after I have just stumbled across this website that after typing the main details in about the camera and the app etc. it gives you details such as:
  • Nearest acceptable sharpness
  • Furthest acceptable sharpness
  • Total depth of field

Hopefully this will be a good tool to use if needed. Seems simpler than pulling a tape measure out.

Depth of Field Troubles

So I understand the principle of depth of field, and what I am meant to be doing, but I am kind of getting confused with what the outcome is going to look like. I am trying to do research and literally don’t know where to begin. I feel like I can’t define the difference between mid and shallow. It’s this is almost baffling my head as much as Antony’s light meter class did!
