Magazine Cover Girls...

I think that looking at magazine covers is a great area to research. The image on the cover would have to be a pretty strong and impressive image to make it onto the cover. So I have picked some of my favorites to look at as possible areas of inspiration.  I have also tried to pick images/covers of quite well known people, this is to try and stick to the concept of heroes/villains.

i-D Magazine Cover:

i-D magazine has a really iconic looking cover, every model has covered their eye in some way, this is recognizable and something that you immediately associate with the magazine.

The most influential and well known model of the moment is Cara Delevingne. She is gracing the covers of every magazine, walking in every run way, and over all really big in both the fashion and social scene. She is someone of the time and has a really distinctive look. I really like this image, the colours that have been used and how bright and vibrant they are. The colour also in the styling and make-up creates an overall really bright image. The flash lighting creates a harsh shadow under her chin, what normally I wouldn't like, but in this case I really do. The way that the spider is covering her eye is something that you expect from i-D, but I think that this is a really cool way to do this. Overall I love this image, I think its quirky and fun.

This image is simple yet striking. I really like the style of this image and the look of it, it has a real rough, grainy feel to it, mainly because of the lighting I think, but I really like it. The shadows really highlight her cheek bones and create dark eyes that make the actual pupil and white of her eyes stand out. The crop is interesting, the way that they are really close and have chosen to cut out most of the hand and head. I prefer crops like this because they are different and daring. Any image of Kate Moss is iconic in my opinion.

Vogue Magazine Cover:

This image is iconic already, and quite controversial in many eyes. People don’t see why Kim and Kanye should be on the front of a ‘fashion’ magazine, however I really like the cover. The soft lighting and the colour palate used for the cover is really neutral and I like how soft the image is. It’s really quite pure, suiting due to the fact she is in what appears to be a wedding gown. I think that this image will be memorable just because of the hype surrounding the couple, and if it wasn't them two I don’t think it would be thought about once it’s off the shelf. It’s important who the image is off not just the look and style of the image.
