I have decided to elaborate on my minor project and carry it
over into my major. I have decided to choose a particular area that I began
exploring during my minor. This was something I have grown up around and
something I know a lot about. I have decided to do my major project based
around pigeons. I want to explore this, as it’s a hobby that my dad and a lot of
people I know have. I think it’s a great subject matter and something I feel
relates closely to me. I want to keep my work relevant and personal so by using
this subject matter I feel I will be able to do this.
Above are the images that I shot during my minor project. This
is what has given me the idea, as well as a conversation with my tutor. My starting point will be my dad, and his
birds, but I hope to expand out looking at maybe his friends and also pigeon
clubs. Hopefully I can capture some amazing images that shows the
passion and enthusiasm behind a hobby that many people have.
Equipment:
The camera I have chosen to
use is a Hasselblad, again this is keeping with the style of my minor project,
however I might start with a 35mm camera just to practice, get some quick
outcomes to best represent the body of work that I am wanting to create. This
will also help me to give myself a better understanding of the direction I want
to go in.
I clearly will be using
film for this project and true to the style of photography I love I will be
using black and white film.
As well as taking images of
pigeons, I also want to capture the owners, standard portrait shot, maybe white
background in the style of Richard Avedon. Also the sheds and surroundings of
the owners.
