When we first got the brief me and Rachel went straight into the studio and had a bash a still life. She took to it like a duck to water. However i not so easily. Here are some of the images i captured from my first shoot.
i decided to use my vans as i really couldn't think of anything really that i wanted to take pictures of. And there my fave pair so i thought why the hell not!
The reason i placed the shoes like this is so that you could see the 'vans of the wall' logo on the back of them. However i don't think that this has worked out well at all. Maybe if i zoomed in on the logo so you could see it, that would have probably been a good place to start! Also i don't really like the grayness of the background to be honest.
Again i think that i should have maybe used another light or maybe just played around with the settings a bit more because there not as bright as i would have liked them too be and also there isn't much light on the front shoe. Maybe use the second light to the left of the image.
While in the studio i began working with a black background. However i didn't think that this was really working well as i wanted to try and stay away from dark shots. So i then switched over to begin using the white one.
I did this composition to show both the front and the back of the vans. I should have maybe used a reflector to get rid of some of the shadows in the shot.
I think that this is my favourite image from the shoot. I would have liked a bit more light on the shoe on the left as it is slightly darker however i like the brightness of the background and also the composition of the shot. would maybe slightly crop so that the shoes were made exactly in the centre.
i like the idea behind this image because people may not know what shoes they are from this single shot but people who know vans shoes will know exactly what they are because of the squiggle line. I just wish that the lighting was a bit more even and brighter.
